Mission of the Program
The mission of the Partners In Ministry (PIM) Upward Bound Program is to mentor and support participants in their successful entrance into postsecondary education.
This college preparatory program assists students in developing strong academic skills and achievement while providing guidance, encouragement, and direction for success beyond high school.
Students participate in two structured program components:
Academic Year Component (9 Months)
Supplements the traditional school year with academic sessions, tutoring, workshops, and college readiness activities.
Summer Component (6 Weeks)
Provides intensive academic instruction and enrichment experiences, which may include a residential stay.

Beginning in the 9th grade and continuing through high school graduation, students receive:

Career exploration
Leadership development
Social-emotional encouragement
Even after graduation, Upward Bound staff continue to track and support participants as they enroll in and complete postsecondary education. Through these services, PIM Upward Bound increases college enrollment and graduation rates, empowering students to reach their full academic and personal potential.

Eligibility Requirements
To receive services, students must meet the following criteria:
Have earned a minimum 2.5 GPA at the time of application
Be enrolled in 9th–12th grade
Be a first-generation college-bound student (neither parent has earned a four-year college degree)
Meet U.S. Department of Education income eligibility guidelines
Eighth-grade students may apply during the spring semester prior to entering 9th grade but must wait until the fall semester to begin participation.
Probationary / Commitment Period
All Upward Bound participants are required to complete a 60-day probationary/commitment period upon entry into the program.
During this time, students must:
Attend all scheduled Upward Bound activities
Participate in tutoring for a minimum of two hours per week
Attend Saturday Academy sessions twice per month
Students admitted during the Summer Component must complete a two-week probationary/commitment period during the Summer Academy. The only excused absences during this period are verified school-related activities. Although students may earn stipends during the probationary period, stipends will not be released until the full commitment period has been successfully completed.
At the end of 60 days, students who demonstrate consistent attendance, appropriate behavior, and active participation will be recognized as full Upward Bound members. Failure to meet attendance and behavior expectations or voluntary withdrawal during this period will result in forfeiture of all earned stipends.
